The art of the castrati of the 17th to 19th centuries is shrouded in mystery, scandal, and a singing mastery unparalleled in human history. It is significant that the training of castrati took place in monasteries and church schools, under the supervision and with the financial support of the Church, so that they could then conquer the outside world. It was the inspiration for the best composers of Italy. Today, few can interpret this operatic music at the highest level and match the castrati like Farinelli, Cafarelli or Porporino. The brightest and best interpreter is Cecilia Bartoli. In addition, her Sacrificium project offers 12 modern premieres, 12 arias of the highest virtuosity, heard for the first time in several centuries. In fact, it is a loose continuation of her project Opera proibita. Her partner is one of the best baroque ensembles of today - Il Giardino Armonico.
