Fatboy Slim's debut album Better Living Through Chemistry was released in 1996. The album was a huge success, reaching number one in the UK and spawning several hit singles, including "The Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You". Does anyone else know the bassist of the British pop group Housemartins? They had a mega hit in the 80s with the catchy song "Caravan Of Love". A certain Norman Cook strummed a four-string back then. With the advent of acid house he changed his field and around 1993 he started to make his first dance tracks under the pseudonyms Pizzaman (with John Reid) and Mighty Dub Katz (with Gareth Hansom). For fun, he moonlighted as a DJ. His trademark: backing acid tracks with hip hop beats. This was close to the spirit of the times and met with a great response from the audience. But no label was willing to sell his records. So he set up his own label, Skint. In 1996, he released his debut as Fatboy Slim. "Better Living Through Chemistry" was more of a compilation than an album. Most of the tracks had already been released as singles or as part of Skint's Brassic Beats Series. Still, the album was a great success in clubs, although some critics complained that some songs sounded a lot like the Chemical Brothers.
