Since the release of their breakthrough album "Singles", Future Islands' status has changed dramatically: from an underground cult, they have become a synth-pop icon. The main credit for this goes to addictive songs like "Seasons (Waiting On You)", thanks to which the Baltimore band is gaining more and more fans. "The Far Field" builds on the success of 2014 and delivers irresistible hooks and disarmingly honest lyrics. During recording, Samuel T. Herring (vocals, lyrics), William Cashion (bass, guitar) and Gerrit Welmers (keyboards) received studio support from their live drummer Michael Lowry for the first time. Combined with Patrick McMinn's string and brass arrangements and John Congleton's production skills, the result is a truly opulent sound that doesn't lack clarity and edge. The highlight of the album is the song "Shadows," a passionate duet between Herring and Debbie Harry of Blondie. The tracks "Time On Her Side" and "Day Glow Fire" are also about the beauty that personal downfalls and past loves can bring. Other tracks, like the single "Ran," are about new beginnings and finding love and knowledge.
