Guitar greats John Scofield and Pat Metheny team up for the first time on this CD. It takes a while for the collaboration to get going, and the sparks start flying on the fourth track, the bluesy "Everybody's Party"; fortunately, the pace doesn't slow down much for the rest of the CD. All of the tracks (including the two blues tracks) are originals by one of the two guitarists, and accompanied by bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bill Stewart, this varied set lives up to expectations. Joe Harley is co-founder and co-producer of the renowned American vinyl label MUSIC MATTERS. His extraordinary sense of LP format sound aesthetics has earned him the title "Tone Poet". On the occasion of its 80th anniversary, Blue Note Records commissioned the "tone poet" to compile several albums for an exclusive LP edition. These pure analog reissues, i.e. produced without any digital intermediates, will be remastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl by Record Technology Incorporated (RTI). The original covers are facsimiles as heavy laminated gatefold sleeves. It uses a manufacturing process whose name should tell you something only LP gourmets should know: tip-on-sleeve. As in the days of the heavy, sturdy cardboard sleeves of the 1950s and 1960s, a stable cardboard base is combined with a glossy laminated surface.
