During the blues boom in England in the 1960s, many British blues bands were formed, one of the best of which was Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. In January 1969, Fleetwood Mac jammed at Chess Studios in Chicago with Willie Dixon, S. P. Leary, Honeyboy Edwards, J. T. Brown and Muddy Waters' longtime pianist Otis Spann. These sessions resulted in the classic "Blues Jam At Chess." The interplay between the band and Spann was so good that they decided to record together. Otis Spann is completely himself on this record, soulful and lively, completely at ease alongside his trusty drummer S.P. Leary. Combined with Peter Green, who was arguably at the peak of his powers on this recording, the result is one of the most important blues albums - "The Biggest Thing Since Colossus" is probably one of the most underrated blues albums. Long unavailable on vinyl, but now remastered from the original 1/4-inch tape, it belongs in every record cabinet.
