The Ramones went back to basics: simple, fast, austere rock 'n' roll songs. Voice, guitar, bass, drums. No make-up, no ego, no light show, no nonsense. And while the themes were sometimes bleak and came from the gloomy basement of the adolescent mind, the band also brought cartoonish fun and high-energy excitement back to rock'n'roll.
