On 19 May 2018, he played at the Royal Wedding, and not only because of this a new musical celebrity was born: the 18-year-old British cellist won the BBC Young Musician award 2016, - in the final he played Shostakovich's 1st Cello Concerto. The agencies mention the fact that he is the first ever "non-white" winner of this extremely prestigious competition (Nicola Benedetti, for example, has previously won this competition as well). Sheku is from Nottingham, of which he is very proud, and donated £3,000 to his former school last year for music development. He is part of a large family and has 6 other siblings, all of whom play musical instruments. He was first noticed by British audiences on the television show Britain's Got Talent.
