Attention Sodom fans, Tom Angelripper & Co. are coming out with some exciting new releases! First, the band is currently in the studio recording new songs. The best news, however, comes from the inner circle of the Gelsenkirchen thrash metal outfit: "We're a real family again," frontman Angelripper exclaims after the band's personnel reshuffle in spring 2018. "The new line-up with Frank Blackfire (guitar, ex-Sodom, ex-Kreator, Assassin), Yorck Segatz (guitar, Beyondition) and Husky (drums, Asphyx, Desaster) is great fun for all of us. Again, there's a collegial atmosphere, we like being together, everyone is interested in everything and - especially important! - everyone is there for everyone else. Such an atmosphere obviously has a positive effect on the songwriting." Want some examples? Sodom's new EP 'Partisan' is out now, and among its three tracks is a live recording from this year's Rock Hard festival. The new line-up could hardly present itself more convincingly! But now to the details of the new EP: with "Partisan", the current Sodom line-up shows which direction their journey will take from now on. The song's main riff comes from guitarist Frank Blackfire and sets the future parameters of Sodom's sound. Angelripper: "Frank has a very unique guitar style as we all remember from being in Agent Orange or Persecution Mania together. You can clearly hear it in 'Partisan', the only difference is that the level of hardness in our new songs is even greater than in our beginnings. And as is the way with Sodom, the chorus is where the number kicks into high gear and becomes a really catchy tune." As usual, the lyrics to "Partisan" come from Angelripper himself, "That unique aura that surrounds lone warriors in war, the unconditional hardness towards self and enemy, has always fascinated me. Guerrillas fight uncompromisingly for their goals. In a way, this can be said of Sodom as well." The second track on the "Partisan" EP is also the brand new "Conflagration" from guitarist York Segatz. Another quintessential Sodom number that shows just how much positive energy and joy of playing is in the band at the moment. In Conflagration, Tom Angelripper, in his usual unambiguous way, analyses a world that is currently coming apart at the seams. "I've sketched out a thoroughly apocalyptic scenario, but as is often the case in my writing, also with elements of fantasy." Both songs were produced by Sodom's own sound engineer, Cornelius "Corny" Rambadt, who made sure that the vitality of the songs was reflected in their sound. Tom: "We deliberately recorded the drums in an old-school style and experimented with sounds to achieve a lively and dynamic product in contrast to the sterile production of many other bands that is unfortunately common today. The sound of the new EP fits perfectly with our intention to combine the compositional class of records like Agent Orange and Persecution Mania with the heaviness of records like Tapping The Vein." Last but not least, the third song on the EP "Partisan" is a live version of "Tired & Red", which was recorded on May 18, 2018 during the Rock Hard festival at the Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen. With this track, Sodoma practically celebrates the return of Frank Blackfire. Tom: "As we know, the number comes from Agent Orange and in a way embodies an era that Frank strongly influenced with his playing. It obviously adds a lot of adrenaline on stage." BTW: with the Tapping The Vein hit 'One Step Over The Line' also recorded at Rock Hard 2018, Sodom will unveil a digital live album in time for the release of 'Partisan' and as a precursor to a December tour on all major websites. So there's a lot of steam in the band at the moment, or as Tom aptly puts it, "We're keeping the ball rolling!"
