System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band from Glendale, California, formed in 1994. It currently consists of Serj Tankian (vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass, vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). The band achieved commercial success by releasing five studio albums, three of which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. System of a Down were nominated for four Grammy Awards and their song "B.Y.O.B." won the award for Best Hard Rock Performance of 2006. The band first rose to fame with their 1998 debut album, which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band's second album, Toxicity, was released in 2001 and went quadruple platinum in the United States. The album's lead single, "Chop Suey!", went triple platinum in the United States. System of a Down's third album, Steal This Album!, was released in 2002 and went double platinum in the United States. The album's lead single, "B.Y.O.B.", went platinum.
