"Still Life", the sixth album in a new guise from Van Der Graaf Generator, celebrates its 45th birthday in 2021. The British progressive rock band is releasing a special reissue in 2021: a three-disc edition of the classic album with two CDs and DVD-Audio, remastered from the original first-generation master tapes, with a stunning new stereo mix and 5.1 surround sound by Stephen W. Taylor, plus additional bonus live tracks from 1975 and 1976 and a BBC session by John Peel from 1976. The album "Still Life" was originally released on April 15, 1976. It is their sixth studio album and their second after "Godbluff" following their 1975 reunion. After touring for the previous album, the band, which at the time consisted of Peter Hammill (vocals, guitar, piano), David Jackson (tenor and soprano saxophone, flute), Hugh Banton (Hammond organ, bass, Mellotron, piano) and Guy Evans (drums, percussion), returned to the studio at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire. There they completed two songs, "Pilgrims" and "La Rossa", which were from the recording of the "Godbluff" album, and wrote the remaining three songs, "Still Life", "My Room (Waiting For Wonderland)" and "Childlike Faith In Childhood's End". In a 2002 interview with Mojo magazine, Banton recalled: "I remember we did 'Still Life', which is probably my favourite Van der Graaf album, and Charisma [Records] came in and said, 'This is just a filler album'. A makeshift album!? We don't do gap-filler albums!". P.S. In addition to "Still Life," 2021 will also see new three-disc editions of "H To Him Who Am The Only One" (1970), "Pawn Hearts" (1971) and "Godbluff" (1975). English prog rock band Van Der Graaf Generator was formed in 1967 in Manchester. They have released 13 studio albums to date (two of them under the Van Der Graaf name). Their most recent album "Do Not Disturb" was released in 2016. Many of the recordings, especially from the 1970s, were groundbreaking for their genre.
