David Axelrod

Influential American Jazz-Funk Composer and Producer

David Axelrod (April 17, 1933 – February 5, 2017) was an American composer, arranger, and producer best known for his work in jazz, classical, and R&B music. He began his career as a staff producer for Capitol Records in the 1960s where he worked with artists like Lou Rawls and Cannonball Adderley. Axelrod's own compositions are noted for their complex arrangements and blending of different musical genres. His work has been widely sampled by hip-hop artists since the 1990s, which brought him renewed attention.
