De Proppies

The Proppies family is a well-known family from Volendam. Bappie (grandfather) and Grandma Prop had 14 children and 42 grandchildren. The family is known for their close, loving and very close relationship with each other. A fun fact is that all 14 children are still alive and will be 1000 years old together in November 2018. The 42 nieces and nephews are also very close to each other. Every day there is coffee with a different aunt and there are often some nieces and nephews with their children. The Prop family inherited the musicality from Bappie Prop, who always played and sang with his accordion and the children washed the dishes in harmony. Music is a common thread in the family. At a young age, many Proppies sang in various Volendam church choirs and from there the nieces quickly became a much sought-after singing group during the packed Christmas, Easter and wedding masses in the Volendam churches. After a few years Nick joined the Proppies with his warm voice and beautiful guitar playing. Because the nieces were always announced as De Proppies, the name has become a household name in the village and every fellow villager knows who they are. After all these years of singing together, De Proppies are well attuned to each other and they quickly know how to divide the parties in polyphony. During rehearsals it always seems like a chicken coop, because the Proppies are not short of temperament and always have something to discuss. Fortunately, their cousin Nick has a lot of patience and is the stable factor of the group. Lately, the small children sometimes sing along with De Proppies.
