Icelandic Experimental Music Project

Frakkur is a musical project by Jón Þór (Jónsi) Birgisson, the lead vocalist and guitarist of the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. The project was largely unknown until 2019 when Jónsi released a compilation of Frakkur's work from 2000 to 2004. The music created under the Frakkur name during this period was experimental and electronic, differing significantly from the ethereal, ambient soundscapes that Sigur Rós is known for. The compositions were created using various software synthesizers and recording techniques, showcasing Jónsi's interest in exploring the more abstract and avant-garde aspects of music. The release of the Frakkur material provided fans with a deeper insight into Jónsi's creative range and his ability to traverse different musical landscapes.
