Kansas is an American rock band that became popular in the 1970s with a distinctive style that combined progressive rock with classical influences and heartland rock. The band was formed in Topeka, Kansas, in 1973, and its original lineup included Steve Walsh on keyboards and vocals, Robby Steinhardt on violin and vocals, Kerry Livgren on guitar and keyboards, Rich Williams on guitar, Dave Hope on bass, and Phil Ehart on drums. Kansas achieved widespread success with their fourth album, "Leftoverture" (1976), which included the hit single "Carry On Wayward Son." The following year, they released "Point of Know Return" (1977), which featured the iconic track "Dust in the Wind," further cementing their place in rock history. Both albums are among their best-known works and have been certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.
