Kanye West's new album "808s & Heartbreak" (named after the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine)

is the follow-up to the year-old "Graduation," which was one of the most successful albums of last year. The album was released on the same day as 50 Cent's new album "Curtis" to set up a battle between the two giants of the hip hop scene, from which Kanye emerged victorious with 957,000 units sold in the first week (50 Cent: 691,000). The album also won three Grammys (Kanye already owns 10!). The first single "Love Lockdown" hints at the direction Kanye will take this time -the single contains no rap(!) but only vocals. As expected, it immediately jumped to number one on the US Billboard chart after its release.
