Electra Heart is the follow-up to Marina's UK Top 5 album The Family Jewels, which contained several international hits like "Hollywood" and "I Am Not A Robot" and charted at #12 in Germany, and proved to be a big step forward despite the latter - mostly quite difficult - album. "Electra Heart" turned out to be a great album full of sophisticated and confident songs, recorded in London and Los Angeles while Marina was on tour. The 14 tracks were co-written and produced by a group of collaborators including Dr. Luke (Katy Perry), Rick Nowels (Madonna), Liam Howe (Sneaker Pimps) and Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen). Electra's Heart is an extremely honest story about identity, love, rejection, fateful romance and hope, all underpinned by humour and British quirkiness. Marina commented, "It's an ode to love in trouble. I've based the project on characters that commonly appear in film and theatre love stories - usually those who have power and control in love, as opposed to those who embody weakness or defeat. I suppose I was coping with the embarrassment of being led around by the nose for the first time in my life. Rejection is an uncomfortable topic for anyone and my response to it is Electra Heart.
