The incomparable charm One of the declared goals of postmodernism was to definitively abolish the boundaries between established culture and pop culture. Arguably one of the most successful examples of this is Philip Glass's Book of Longing (2007). It was the culmination of a longstanding mutual admiration between the American composer and songwriting legend, poet and painter Leonard Cohen (1934-2016). The song cycle is based not only on poetry but also on Cohen's paintings. The compositions congenially evoke the incomparable charm of the Canadian's intimate prose. In some of the poems one can hear himself as the narrator.
