A few months before Jim Morrison's death in Paris, L.A. Woman, the most blues-influenced album, was released. The most successful single was Love Her Madly, written by guitarist Robbie Krieger, whose girlfriend regularly threatened to leave him. According to Rolling Stone magazine, the song is composed of Chuck Berry's best riffs since the Stone days. The same magazine calls L.A. Woman the Doors' best album, including their debut. "A monument worthy of dancing in the streets." Doug Sax remastered the SACD from the original analog tapes, accompanied by Bruce Botnick, the Doors' producer and sound engineer. The original masters were compiled on a tape deck with a tube input stage, and a machine with a tube output stage was also used to play the tapes to be remastered. The basis for the surround sound were 96k/24bit files that Botnick mixed and mastered from the original analog masters for the audio DVD release on Perception. For the SACD discs, resampling to DSD (without filtering) was done with a Weiss Saracon converter.
