Orlando Allen

Orlando Allen (born London, England) is a producer, power drummer and composer/songwriter. He is also a harmony vocalist, Prime DJ selector (Flamedog Djz) and a trained studio engineer and mastering technician. He is the son of famous UK/French psychedelic musicians Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth, and half-brother of Ynys Allen. When he was 3 months old, his family moved from England to Deia Majorca on the Mediterranean coast of Spain (Balearic Islands) and remained there until he was 7. At the age of 11, he migrated to Melbourne, Australia. As a consequence of being involved with music and tours for his whole life due to his parents' professions, he started learning the drums at the age of 12 with a well respected jazz teacher. He left school and his home at the age of 15 and went on tour for the next decade with various Reggae, Dub, Jazz and Mozambique Afro Bands. His range of skills and talents have been acquired as a result of a varied career. In the early 2000s he built and established MasterBuilder/Flamedog Studios in Byron Bay, Australia and has engineered, composed, produced and mastered over 19 albums and singles for a wide variety of local and international artists, MC's, DJ's and bands. Orlando has toured extensively since he was 15 as a drummer/vocalist with various bands including: Gong (toured UK/France), Nahko Bear and Medicine For The People (toured USA), Deya Dova (toured Australia), Daevid Allen's University Of Errors (toured USA), Mother Gong (toured UK/Australia), Last Man Standing (toured UK), Earth Reggae (toured Australia), Dread Affair (toured France), Kobya (toured Mozambique). He has also performed as a supporting artist for major international acts such as: Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest, Lucky Dube, The Wailers Band, Mahotella Queens, Mad Professor, The Polyphonic Spree, Violent Femmes and many more. He is the founder and Managing Director of Flamedog/IIluminaka Records and is also a producer and sound engineer. Orlando continues to perform regularly as a DJ for clubs and dance parties under the name of Flamedog Djz as he is passionate about music.
